About the Artist

Aynslee Moon Smithee earned her BFA from the University of Mississippi and her MFA from the University of Alabama.  She taught college art courses for many years at The University of Alabama Huntsville before becoming the Art Teacher at Holy Spirit Catholic School, where she currently teaches elementary and Middle School students.  She also serves as a part-time pastor at Valley United Methodist Church, with a focus on liturgical art. 

Her first love is oil painting but she works in a wide range of materials, including but not limited to, charcoal, ballpoint pen, watercolor, pastel, fabric and thread.  She creates sweetly intimate home life paintings, vibrant color studies, impressionistic landscapes, and lyrical abstracts, as well as liturgical artwork packed with layered storytelling and spiritual symbolism.  Her artwork has been a part of local and national exhibitions over the years and she continues to build her body of work as she inspires younger generations to trust their creative spirits.
